| Muhahahaha - I feel like a mad scientist today. I have an extra subframe assembly here from my previous Z and I took it all aprt yesterday after installing a slew of suspension upgrades. With all the new parts and the cleanliness of my car, I wasn't too happy with the condition of all the bolts, SO, I went nuts with the nickel plating setup. Step 1: Degrease bolts Step2: Hydrochloric acid dip to remove cadmium plating Step3: Wirebrush bolts/nuts to clean up steel Step4: Degrease bolts Step5: 30 minutes in the plating bath Step6: Rinse Small sample of parts getting ready to plate:

I just dropped a bucket of engine bolts/nuts into the acid bath and will get to plating those later.. The process is somewhat tedious but only because you have a bunch of little parts to work with. I used some 14-gauge copper-stranded wire and stripped it clean of the insulation. Each strand is used seperately to hang the pieces into the bath. I think I probably have about 4 hours in what you see, but well worth it. I just can't stand working on the car and dealing with siezed up bolts and the nickel plate will definately add a robust surface and a nice quality finish. Highly recommended if you have the materials/time. I use the Caswell kit, [ www.caswellplating.com ] - pretty nice kit and very well documented - just about anyone could do this.
